Musix Newsletter #1 • 2002

Welcome to our first Musix Newsletter.
Even though the holiday season is over, we’ll leave this newsletter, which is all holiday material, posted for a while longer. It’s never too early to plan for next year!

You can download four songs in .pdf format, print them out and then hear an MP3 recording of each. (If your browser won’t open .pdf files, you’ll need to download the free version of Acrobat Reader from Adobe.) Our December 2002 issue includes four songs: a crosspicking guitar arrangement of “Angels We Have Heard on High,” an easy mandolin version of “Away in a Manger,” a Carter-style guitar version of “The First Noel,” and a flatpicked guitar/bluegrass vocal arrangement of “Children Go Where I Send Thee.”

Sheet Music:
“Children Go Where I Send Thee” (flatpicked/bluegrass arrangement)
“Angels We Have Heard on High” (crosspicking arrangement )
“Away in a Manger” (easy mandolin version)
“The First Noel” (Carter-style version)

MP3 Recordings:
Spoken intro to “Children Go Where I Send Thee
“Children Go Where I Send Thee”
“Angels We Have Heard on High”
“Away in a Manger”
“The First Noel”

Future editions of the Musix Newsletter will include mini lessons in text and MP3 formats, playing tips, tablature, chord info, songs, tunes, excerpts from new books & CDs, and more. We hope to publish a new newsletter every six weeks or so. Let us know what you’d like us to cover. We also have a variety of downloadable guitar and mandolin music on our Downloads page.

We’ve just added an online ordering capability and shopping cart to www.musixnow .com! You can now place credit card orders for any of our books, CDs, videos, or other products through our secure server, 24 hours a day, seven days a week! Of course we’ll still take orders by mail and toll free telephone. Check it out!

Our most popular new products are the “Shady Grove Jerry Garcia” and “Shady Grove David Grisman” transcriptions. The Garcia/guitar book makes a great songbook with all the melodies, chords, and lyrics in addition to Jerry’s solos in standard notation and TAB.

Our three volume book/CD “Ear Training” course is also getting a lot of attention. It’s incredibly useful for training your ear. The text teaches you about scales, modes, intervals, and chords while the CD exercises drill you on recognizing them in music. You can hear MPs samples of the exercises on the Ear Training page.

My newest book/CD is now available: “First Lessons: Mandolin’. If you’ve never played mandolin, this is the set for you! Learn all the important chords on a bunch of good songs and then start playing melodies. Eventually you’ll get into playing bluegrass and fiddle tunes. Audio samples for “First Lessons: Mandolin,” along with many other of our books and CDs, can be heard on our website.

So download the .pdfs and MP3s, play along and have a happy and safe holiday season. See you in 2003!

Happy Holidays!

Best,
Dix Bruce
