The Parking Lot Picker's Mandolin edition
by Dix Bruce

Over four years in the making! This "must have" collection of over 215 great Bluegrass, Old Time, Country, and Gospel standards with downloadable recordings of EVERY song from the 300 page plus book.

Melodies are presented with standard notation and tablature along with lyrics and chords. See sample page and table of contents below. Book is spiral bound to lay flat at jam and practice sessions.

Learn to play songs written and recorded by the giants of traditional American music: Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, Flatt & Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, The Osborne Brothers, Jimmy Martin, Doc Watson, and many more.

Also included: Step-by-step instruction on how to transpose any song to any key! Each song listed with suggested male and female voice keys.

Dix's commentary on playing the songs will be invaluable to any mandolinist interested in bluegrass, old time, and gospel music. Dix plays guitar, mandolin, and sings on the accompanying CDs. Bill Evans on banjo and vocals. Get your copy of The Parking Lot Picker's Songbook for Mandolin now!

Also available now: The Parking Lot Picker's Songbook for Guitar, The Parking Lot Picker's Songbook for Banjo, The Parking Lot Picker's Songbook for Dobro, The Parking Lot Picker's Songbook for Bass, and The Parking Lot Picker's Songbook for Fiddle.

A note on the recordings that accompany the songbooks: Our main publisher, Mel Bay Publications, has decided to stop including CDs with their instructional books in favor of audio downloads. The Parking Lot Picker's Songbook for Mandolin is no longer available with CDs, only downloads. If you'd still like to have the audio on CDs, we can provide them at our cost. They're only available when you buy the book. See the link below.

This phasing out of CDs will not affect the book/CD sets that Musix publishes, like "Gypsy Swing and Hot Club Rhythm," which will continue to be sold with a CD included.

Customer comment:
Hi Dix
This is just a quick follow-up to say that the Parking Lot Pickers Songbooks went over really well at our just completed music camp. We used all 30 of them for both our Friday band scramble event and our Saturday evening gospel singalong session. Campers loved them... Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to put this great resource together for us all to share. I think we'll be buying more Sonbooks for the October Jam Camp.

Dear Dix
I have just bought `Parking Lot Pickers Songbook ` for mandolin.-----It`s brilliant---it`s what I have been looking for. Thanks so much. My friends and I can now sit and play all night without thinking `what shall we play next`  I like the fact that the tab is very basic . It means that I have more freedom to play as I feel it . Once again Dix, thanks for a very good book .

Hi Mr. Bruce

First off I want to thank you for all your GREAT mandolin instruction books, I think I have just about all of them. I have been playing for about a year (unfortunately I dont feel I am very good yet) anyway I just purchased Parking Lot Pickers Guide - Mandolin edition WOW!! what a boat load of songs!! ...

Thanks,
Dennis R.
"... I live and work in rural Northern Virginia.  I have been taking flat top guitar lessons for about 10 years, and started mandolin lessons 3 years ago.  I thought that I had bought every music instruction book there was, my teacher recently bought and gave me your book, PARKING LOT PICKERS SONGBOOK, for mandolin.  The Picker's Songbook is simply wonderful, I don't think it has been more than 10 feet from me since I got it.  What I like is that it is tabbed, plus the notes actually written out, in an easy format.  I am going to order me another copy, and one for a fellow, struggling, musician... at work last week, someone ... said that she had taken music lessons in California, from Bruce Dixby, I held up your book, which was sitting on my desk, and asked her if it was you, she smiled, and said yes.

If you every do a Volume II, I want first copy.  This is just a note to say that you may not realize it, but it is a nice book for someone who has intro skills, and a little music theory, I do not know of any one else who has done this, and I have probably 150 music books in my basement.  Guess it is a case of right book for where my learning curve is.

…"…your new Mandolin Bluegrass book is THE BEST bluegrass book I have ever had; you give us words, tablature, musical notation, CD and history and humor to boot, and some classic pictures, all for under $30. I applaud you for so great a gift to bluegrass musicians. I foresee your book being THE book to have in the bluegrass world…I give you a 10.5 outta 10. I will tell everyone in the world to get it. "

"I received my Parking Lot Picker's Songbook today (mandolin), and I have one comment: awesome! Thank you so so much for all of the work that you put into this project! It is top notch from start to finish, and I very much appreciate your having listing the various artists on each song that are known for playing the piece. The tabbbed melodies are perfect. The recommended keys are quite helpful. This is the penultimate book for me!
Thank you."

"Man Dix...This is excellent! I just bought one through your website. I learned probably 30-40 songs when I first picked up the mandolin and did not have the words or chords...just the tab for the pickin of the solos and I had to figure out the chords. This book basically has every song that I learned and it is laid out with the chords as well as the words. As they say in golf..."YOU DA MAN!" Thanks again for a great product."

"This book is just what I’ve been looking for — what a wonderful assortment of songs! I know a limited amount of chords on the guitar so I really appreciate the capo chart and the scale and transposition chart. I have also been playing the penny whistle (for about a year) with a friend who plays autoharp, so this book will be most helpful in learning new songs. Your introduction notes are also helpful, and I especially appreciate your notes about certain selected songs. The index by artist is excellent! The two CDs are a real added bonus — what a fun way to learn the songs! I also appreciate the pictures. Loving old time, country, and especially gospel music. I am definitely a satisfied customer. Thank you for putting this book together — it’s the best I’ve seen.

"I would really love to see a second volume of the "Parking Lot Picker’s Songbook.” My son-in-law and I have really gained a lot from the guitar and mandolin editions and play out of those books entirely . . . your books are the best in my opinion for us beginners and closet pickers."
