Mandolin Harmonics
by Dix Bruce

From time to time we get requests for the first book/recording set Dix Bruce produced for Mel Bay Publications in the early-1980s: "Mandolin Harmonics." It contains a collection of mandolin duets, melodies and harmonies (including tenor, baritone, and counterpoint) designed to be played by two and three mandolins. The text explains how to add a harmony part to a simple melody by analyzing the chord progression and melody.

The tunes include a variety of Irish and fiddle tunes, originals, and classical tunes: Twinkle Little Star, The Golden Slippers, The Old Grey Mare, The Boys From Bluehill, Kathi's Waltz, Black Eyed Susie, Lac du Mortes, Baytoe, The Cuckoo's Nest, Old Joe Clark I, On Sekun Island, Bouree, Menuett, Shebeg & Sheemore, Dawg's Pause, Old Joe Clark II, Banks of the Ohio, Redwing in C, and Redwing in C-minor. Also included is a tune discography, a general discography, and a selected bibliography.

Unfortunately, "Mandolin Harmonics" is officially out of print. Fortunately, through the magic of photocopy and tape dubbing, you can still get a copy. It's not quite as slick as the original, but if you want it, we got it.
